I want to use a MQ-stage but when I use it, I get an error on the Message Id
-> data type MQ.MSGID cant be opened. Should I install certain components
first to be able to use a connection to MQ from DataStage?

Using a MQ-stage
The Mq.MSGID is a datatype that should be loaded when you install the MQ
plugin. If not check the install package you should find there is a dsx that
contains the datatypes.
There are a few that get setup, but without the MQ.MSGID type you will get
the error you are seeing below..
You can of course also just define a datatype called MQ.MSGID type of the
following;
MQ.MSGID base type String
SQL properties;
char precision 24 scale 0 display 24
On the new MQ plugin there are a number of additional MQ types that will get
included as read-only when the version 7 system installs, however you will
have to wait for GA of that as the new Mqplugin is built for the version
interface.

We just had a telephone conversation with Mike Carney
of Ascential. He mentioned that the current plug-in
uses the MQ server libraries and thus, requires an MQ
server instance running on the same system as the
DataStage server. This requires us to either site the
MQ queue on the same system as the DataStage server or
set up an MQ server on the DataStage server to access
a remote queue. If we do the latter, it requires us to
pay another expensive license for MQ. Do you know if
there are plans to make the MQ plug-in use the MQ
client libraries instead of the server libraries? If
this were done, we would not need to purchase
expensive licenses that we dont need.

Just to confirm that today the DataStage MQ plug-in does require the MQ
server.
We are indeed planning to enhance the MQ plug-in use the MQ client libraries
and as with everything its position in the Ascential roadmap is dependant
on customer demand.
If there are any customers out there which are interested in this
functionality and would like to be involved in helping us define precise
requirements could you please either submit an enhancement case via support
or contact me directly.
